My name is Jessica Sheppard and this will be my third year teaching at St. John's. I grew up on both the Illinois and Missouri side in the St. Louis area. I attended Concordia University-Nebraska and studied Middle Level Education with an emphasis in Language Arts and Physical Education. My husband, Nick, and I are very blessed to stay active and enjoy exploring God's creation, especially hiking and biking in the mountains.
My first two years of teaching at St. John's, I taught 6th-8th Gr. Science, but this year I have moved to 6th & 7th Grade Literature and Athletic Director. I love teaching middle school and sharing the love of Christ with the students in daily devotions and discussion. In Literature, I am eager to help students strengthen their skills in reading, comprehension and writing, along with foster a positive interest in reading.
My name is Marissa Owens. I am married to a pediatric dentist, Dr. Craig Owens. We are both Denver natives, and love the city, as well as every Colorado sport! I graduated from Azusa Pacific University and obtained my licensure from University of Colorado, Denver. My first teaching job five years ago was in the DPS school district. Throughout my five years of teaching, I have had a wide variety of experiences and feel thankful to be at St. John's for my second year. I love teaching middle school and feel it is such an important time in both academics and the faith for kids. As students will come to find out, I am total History-geek and get super excited and passionate about the subject. My hope is that by the end of the year, students will feel excited about studying the past, as well as learning about new places and cultures. I view my classroom as though we are a community of learners, all searching after new knowledge. As students will come to find out, I am serious about getting down to work in Social Studies, but definitely love to have some fun in the process!
6th - 8th Grade English
Hello, my name is Megan Rojo, and I am the new middle school English teacher. In the past, I have taught 4th grade and algebra, and I have tutored many different subjects at just about every grade level. I received my degree in Liberal Studies from Azusa Pacific University in sunny southern California, where I also ran cross country and track and field. Closer to home, I am an alumna of Lutheran High School and attended Shepherd of the Hills for grades K-8. I am very excited to join the team here at St. John's!
My teaching philosophy is undergirded by the knowledge that we are all made in the Image of God (Genesis 1:26). Every student is intrinsically valuable and makes a unique contribution to the classroom. This year in English we will split our time between grammar practice and writing workshops, with the ultimate goal of enhancing our communication abilities to be prepared for life in the 21st century. I look forward to seeing everyone grow this year, both individually and as a class.
