Sunday 2/28 - Saturday 3/5
* If you have more than 9 people, you might consider splitting into multiple groups for the "Getting Started" questions.
Share your high moment of the week.
Share your low moment of the week.
What do/did your parents do for a living?
How has God shown up in your life this week?
* There's a lot of material here, so use your judgment and skip what you need to. If you get stuck, refer to your People's Bible Commentary on John.
Think back to Sunday's sermon on John 8:12-30. Was there anything that struck you?
Can you recall a time when you wanted to win an argument so badly that you were unwilling to consider the truth in what the other person was saying? Have you ever said something that wasn't exactly true in order to win an argument?
The people in today's passage acted that way, because Jesus told them that their actions didn't line up with their father's will. Watch John 8:31-47 in "The Gospel of John" (Netflix = 1:03:48 - 1:06:59 or iTunes = 1:04:08 - 1:07:19) or read John 8:31-47 here. Then watch this video and discuss.
In the video, Pastor AJ talked about how the fatherhood idea of John 8:31-47 is in some ways similar to the "fruit" idea from John 15:1-8. Both concepts tell us that as people forgiven by Jesus, our desire should be to do that which is in line with His will. So, to use the words of John 15, how do we "remain in [Jesus]?"
Optional Worship Song
Take a few moments to sing the following song as a group. Be sure to turn up the volume so that less confident singers feel comfortable.
